Celebrate Disney Legend Rex Allen in his hometown of Willcox, Arizona, October 5-7, 2012.

Disney fans may best know Rex Allen as the voice of the father in the original Carousel of Progress. His is the voice you hear singing There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow. In addition to that, he did other work for Disney and had a long successful entertainment career apart from Disney. He was inducted as an official Disney Legend in 1996.

A true cowboy, Rex owned no other clothes but western togs and boots. He once recalled Walt's reaction when he arrived at the Studio wearing a borrowed suit. Rex said, "Walt came up to me and said, 'Hardly recognized you incognito.'"

‘Camp Rock: The Musical’ at Ahwatukee Children’s Theatre June 25 and July 23-25, 2011.

The following is excerpted from a June 21st East Valley Tribune story (linked at the end of this post):

Aspiring young local actors are hard at work rehearsing for a nearly sold out run of "Camp Rock: The Musical" at the Ahwatukee Children's Theatre.

The musical itself centers around children at a summer music camp not unlike the Ahwatukee Children's Theatre, where roughly half of the cast of 41 are returning from previous shows.

The storyline of the musical is based on Disney's "Camp Rock 2" and features songs from both of the films.

The production is abundant in innocent love stories as well as conflicts. Lead characters Mitchie Torres, played by 11-year-old Olivia Smith, and Shane Gray, played by Jacob Hedeby, 11, highlight these tense emotions of the pre-teen years with skill and a natural on-stage chemistry.

As of June 21st, tickets were still available for the June 25 showing at 2 p.m.

"Camp Rock: The Musical" will hit the ACT stage again next month from July 23rd through July 25th. Registration for that show is $350 and ends July 5, 2011.

Disney Parks' Let The Memories Begin Tour to visit Arizona Mills Mall on July 19-20, 2011.

Disney Parks wants families to create their own Disney memories and are helping them imagine the possibilities with the Let The Memories Begin Tour. The tour is taking Disney memory making into malls across America where children and adults of all ages can enjoy a sample of the magic and fun that people enjoy every day in the Disney theme parks.

Visitors can see replicas of attractions like the Jungle Cruise, Cinderella’s Castle and other fun Disney photo spots to envision making their own Disney vacation memories.

The tour swings through the Phoenix area on July 19th and 20th with a visit to Arizona Mills Mall. Arizona Mills Mall is located at 5000 Arizona Mills Circle in Tempe.

The tour started off in Chicago on May 30th and wraps up with a stop in Puerto Rico on September 23rd and 24th.

Selena Gomez' Arizona appearances have been canceled. The Disney Channel star was hospitalized just before the scheduled start of her Monte Carlo movie promotional tour so the kick off event was pushed back a couple of days. It appears that, in order to keep the rest of the tour on schedule, the Phoenix date was dropped from the schedule.

Kids can sing, dance, and act in Ahwatukee Children's Theater's 2011 summer camp productions of Pinocchio, Camp Rock and Disney Dazzle.

Keep your kids out of the heat this summer with an array of musical theater camps offered by the Ahwatukee Children's Theater.

Beginning June 6 and continuing through July 29, the local children's theater will be hosting musical camps and programs for productions including "Pinocchio", "Camp Rock", and "Disney Dazzle".

Along with their choice of productions, kids can also take a workshop to "audition like a pro", or audition for the theater's Teen Board (minimum age requirements may apply).

At the end of each camp, which lasts about a week, showcases for parents, friends and the community will be performed. The camp even has volunteer opportunities for parents to get involved. A full list of camps and productions is available at www.azact.org.

Disneyland deals on car rental and park tickets.

Here are a couple of deals to help make a Disneyland weekend getaway a little easier. Save around $15 on 3-day Park Hopper tickets and get a rental car for $40 (plus taxes).

Disneyland:
The Southern California theme park is discounting its Park Hopper passes through April 14, 2011. The three-day pass, which gives admission to Disneyland and neighboring California Adventure for three days, is on sale for $169 for age 10 and older and $152 for ages 3-9. "Tarzan" coming to Arizona Broadway Theatre in April 2012

On April 20, 2012, Arizona Broadway Theatre presents the regional premiere of “Tarzan,” based on the Disney film. With music by Grammy Award-winner Phil Collins, “Tarzan” swings onto the stage with technical and lighting wizardry.

“We are thrilled to bring you something so exciting this coming season,” said Kurtis W. Overby, Arizona Broadway Theatre’s artistic associate and resident choreographer. “The Valley hasn’t seen anything like this produced by a local theater company, and we’re pulling out all the stops.”

Season ticket subscriptions will go on sale starting April 18, 2011.

Single show tickets go on sale May 23, 2011.

New fairy tale exhibit at Arizona Museum for Youth through May 29, 2011.

“Once Upon A Time: Fairy Tales, Frogs and Fables,” a new exhibition at Mesa's Arizona Museum for Youth, features artistic interpretations of fairy tales that have also inspired Disney favorites Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Alice in Wonderland, and more.

Contemporary fairy tale reimaginings are often overly frightening or sensual. For this exhibit however curator Jeffory Morris explained in an interview with the East Valley Tribune "When we went out to find art, a lot of it was either too dark or too hokey, and we really wanted something between those two extremes. [The artists] do a nice job of taking a fresh approach to some of these classic stories without being too adult or being boring."

Hale Centre Theatre will hold auditions for Cinderella on January 31st at 5:30pm.

The show runs from March 5th to May 21st. It will be produced by David and Corrin Dietlein and directed by Gary Caswell.

Disney Store to bring its innovative concept store to Chandler Fashion Center in 2011.

Disney Store has announced plans to continue rolling out its new store concept this year beginning with stores in 6 North American Markets including one right here in the Phoenix market. Chandler Fashion Center is one of only four existing locations to be transformed to the new look with a major renovation. No word yet on when this overhaul will begin or be completed but WDlocal.com will keep you posted as this project develops.

As part of the announcement, Jim Fielding, president of Disney Stores Worldwide, said "The future of Disney Store is brighter than ever as we expand our reach by opening in new markets, leverage the latest technology to enhance the guest experience and improve efficiency, showcase incredible new Disney content, and bring a magical Disney experience to local communities everywhere."

UPDATE: Reader Deanna points out that the Chandler Fashion Center store will not be a renovation as reported on TheStreet.com. Rather, it will be an all-new store. Chandler Fashion Center has never had a Disney Store. Thanks Deanna!
